VI - My North - Where The Journey Begins Each Day

THE STARTING POINT

Every journey needs a starting point.

Not a distant goal.

Not a vague aspiration.

A place to begin — today.

In the system of self-engagement, that starting point has a name.

My North.

My North is not a destination.

It is a compass.

It is what you orient toward — before you take a single step.

It is where clarity lives.

Without My North, you wake up reacting.

With My North, you wake up creating.

THE FIVE DIMENSIONS

My North has five dimensions.

Each one answers a question.

Together, they form a complete compass.

THE ROOT

Why do I exist?

Beyond role.

Beyond title.

Beyond what you do for a living.

Why are you here — at all?

This is the deepest question.

Most people never ask it.

They define themselves by function — "I am a manager, a parent, an engineer."

But function is not existence.

The Root asks: If all roles were stripped away, why would you still matter?

This is not a question you answer once.

It is a question you live into.

And the answer — even partial — becomes the foundation of everything.

When you know your Root, you cannot be shaken.

Because your existence does not depend on circumstance.

It depends on something deeper.

THE BRIDGE

Why do I do what I do?

Now — connect the Root to your work.

The Bridge is the deeper meaning behind your professional mission.

Not the job description.

Not the KPIs.

The meaning.

Why THIS work?

Why does it matter — to you?

How does it connect to why you exist?

Without the Bridge, work is just labor.

With the Bridge, work becomes expression.

The same tasks. The same hours. The same challenges.

But completely different experience.

Because now your work is connected to your existence.

The Root flows into the day.

THE MULTIPLICATION

Where does my impact multiply?

This is where vision becomes concrete.

Where does your contribution land?

How does it multiply beyond you?

What is the reach of your gift?

The Multiplication asks: Where, How, and What of your professional mission.

Not just: "What do I do?"

But: "Where does what I do CREATE more than I could alone?"

This is the connection to Scroll 1 — the promise of organization.

We can create more and better together.

The Multiplication is YOUR part in that promise.

THE HORIZON

What is my 90-Day Effect?

Now we move from the eternal to the temporal.

What changes in 90 days because you show up?

90 days is long enough to create something real.

90 days is short enough to see clearly.

90 days is the horizon you can walk toward.

This is not a goal imposed from outside.

This is YOUR Effect.

Declared by you.

Owned by you.

Created by you.

The Horizon gives direction to every day.

When you know what changes in 90 days — you know what today is for.

THE CASCADE

What do I celebrate — and when?

The Horizon is 90 days away.

But 90 days is made of smaller moments.

The Cascade brings the Horizon into THIS week.

What is my 60-day effect? — The milestone on the way.

What is this month's effect? — What must be true by month's end.

What is this Friday's celebration? — What will I have created by week's end.

The Cascade makes the distant immediate.

It breaks the Horizon into steps.

It gives you something to claim — every single week.

Without the Cascade, the 90-Day Effect remains a dream.

With the Cascade, it becomes a series of creations.

Step by step.

Week by week.

Until the Horizon arrives.

THE COMPLETE COMPASS

The Root — why you exist.

The Bridge — why you work.

The Multiplication — where your impact lands.

The Horizon — what changes in 90 days.

The Cascade — what you create this week.

Five dimensions.

One compass.

My North.

When you know these five, you do not drift.

When you begin each day with these five, you do not react.

When you return to these five, you find your way — always.

HOW MY NORTH WORKS

My North is not a one-time exercise.

It is a daily return.

Each morning — before the world rushes in:

Return to your Root. Feel why you exist.

Return to your Bridge. Feel why this work matters.

Return to your Multiplication. See where your impact lands.

Return to your Horizon. See what you are creating in 90 days.

Return to your Cascade. Know what this week is for.

This takes minutes.

But it orients everything.

Because now you are not reacting to the day.

You are creating the day.

From your North.

THE LEADER AND MY NORTH

If you are a leader:

Do you know YOUR North?

Not the company's mission.

Not the quarterly targets.

YOUR North.

Why do you exist?

Why do you lead?

Where does your impact multiply?

What changes in 90 days because you lead?

What will you celebrate this Friday?

If you cannot answer these — how can you invite others into theirs?

The leader who knows their North — leads differently.

Not from pressure.

From clarity.

Not from fear.

From purpose.

INVITING OTHERS INTO MY NORTH

You cannot give someone their North.

Only they can find it.

But you can ask the questions:

"Why do you exist — beyond your role here?"

"Why does this work matter — to you?"

"Where does your impact multiply?"

"What would you want to be different in 90 days?"

"What would you celebrate this Friday?"

These questions are not performance reviews.

They are invitations.

Invitations to find their own compass.

And when someone finds their North — they do not need to be managed.

They manage themselves.

From their own clarity.

Toward their own Effect.

THE CONNECTION TO SELF-ENGAGEMENT

Remember: Self-engagement follows a system.

My North is the first element of that system.

Before action — direction.

Before doing — knowing.

Before walking — orienting.

Without My North, self-engagement is random.

With My North, self-engagement has a compass.

Each day begins here.

Each day returns here.

And from here — everything else flows.

THE PRIME ORGANIZATION AND MY NORTH

Imagine an organization where every person knows their North.

Not the company mission memorized.

Their own Root, Bridge, Multiplication, Horizon, Cascade.

Each person oriented.

Each person clear.

Each person knowing why they exist, why they work, where their impact lands, what they are creating, what they celebrate.

This organization does not need motivation programs.

It does not need engagement initiatives.

It needs nothing added — because each person carries their compass within.

This is the Prime Organization.

Not built on external pressure.

Built on internal clarity.

Person by person.

North by North.

Day by day.

THE ORGANIZATION'S MY NORTH

Everything we have said about the individual applies to the organization.

The organization also needs a compass.

Not a mission statement on a wall.

A living North.

The Organization's Root

Why does this organization exist?

Beyond profit. Beyond function. Beyond what it sells or provides.

Why is it HERE — at all?

An organization without a Root is a machine.

An organization with a Root is a living system.

The Organization's Bridge

Why does this organization do what it does?

The deeper meaning behind its mission.

Not the business model — the meaning.

When this is clear, people can connect their Bridge to it.

When this is unclear, connection is impossible.

The Organization's Multiplication

Where does this organization's impact multiply?

Beyond the transaction. Beyond the customer.

Where does the collective gift land — and grow?

This is the promise of organization made visible.

We create more and better together — and HERE is where it lands.

The Organization's Horizon

What changes in 90 days because this organization shows up?

Not just targets.

Effect.

What will be different in the world?

When each person knows this, their Horizon connects to it.

When no one knows this, each person walks alone.

The Organization's Cascade

What do we celebrate — together — this week?

The collective Friday celebration.

What have WE created — together — that did not exist before?

This is where "we can create more together" becomes real.

Week by week.

Celebration by celebration.

TWO COMPASSES — ONE DIRECTION?

Now there are two compasses.

The individual's My North.

The organization's My North.

The question is:

Are they pointing in corresponding directions?

If my Root and the organization's Root have nothing in common...

If my Bridge and the organization's Bridge cannot meet...

If my Multiplication finds no home in the organization's Multiplication...

Then we have a transaction.

Not a partnership.

Not creation together.

A transaction.

But if the Norths correspond...

If my existence finds expression through this organization's existence...

If my WHY finds fuel in this organization's WHY...

Then something else becomes possible.

Something we will explore in the next scroll.

Something called WHY².

THE DIALOGUE OF NORTHS

How do we discover if the Norths align?

Not by assumption.

Not by hoping.

Not by the organization announcing and expecting compliance.

Through Dialogue.

Remember: Dialogue is thinking together.

Not transmitting. Not convincing. Not debating.

Thinking together — until something new emerges.

The Dialogue of Norths is this:

The individual speaks their Root, their Bridge, their Multiplication.

The organization speaks its Root, its Bridge, its Multiplication.

Together — they listen for correspondence.

Where do these Norths touch?

Where do they overlap?

Where might my existence flow through this organization's existence?

Where might my WHY become deeper because of this organization's WHY?

This Dialogue cannot be rushed.

It cannot be mandated.

It cannot be faked.

But when it happens — truly happens — something shifts.

The individual no longer works FOR the organization.

The individual creates THROUGH the organization.

The organization no longer employs the individual.

The organization becomes the soil for the individual's gift.

WHEN NORTHS ALIGN

When the Dialogue of Norths reveals correspondence...

When the individual's compass and the organization's compass point in similar directions...

WHY can become WHY².

Single WHY: "I work here because I need a job."

WHY²: "I create here because my existence is expressed through this organization's existence."

Single WHY: "I do this because it's my role."

WHY²: "I do this because my Root finds soil here."

Single WHY exhausts.

WHY² fuels.

Single WHY requires motivation.

WHY² generates motivation.

Single WHY can sustain for a while.

WHY² sustains through everything.

This is why the Dialogue of Norths matters.

This is why the organization must know its own North.

This is why alignment is not a luxury — it is the foundation.

Without aligned Norths — only transaction.

With aligned Norths — WHY² becomes possible.

And WHY² is the fuel that sustains everything.

CLOSING

Every journey needs a starting point.

My North is the individual's compass.

The Organization's North is the collective compass.

When both are known...

When both are spoken...

When the Dialogue of Norths happens...

Alignment becomes visible.

Or misalignment becomes clear.

And in that alignment — WHY can become WHY².

The fuel that sustains.

The depth that never runs dry.

This is where the journey begins.

Each day.

Every day.

My North.

Our North.

Aligned.
